Scan-Speak 12MU/8731T00 'Illuminator'
Midrange driver with a low‑mass moving system.
The Scan‑Speak 12MU/8731T00 uses a one‑piece cone and dust cap, which reduces moving mass and increases rigidity in the central area of the diaphragm. This construction supports accurate midrange performance and maintains stable characteristics at higher output levels. The low‑loss suspension provides linear excursion with minimal mechanical damping.
The design incorporates a neodymium magnet. The magnetic gap has an extended height, allowing the short voice coil to operate entirely within a region of constant magnetic flux. This reduces inductance variation during coil displacement and lowers the associated distortion. The Symmetrical Drive SD‑3 system further stabilizes the magnetic field and reduces distortion caused by field asymmetry.
The open basket improves airflow around the moving system and reduces compression effects. The lightweight four‑layer voice coil and rigid spider provide precise control of diaphragm motion.
