Iron core coils provide significant lower hysteresis compared to coils with ferrite cores, delivering higher power handling at the same time.

Iron core coils without end discs feature more copper wire and due to less core-disc material thereby also lower distortion, which may be a better choice if the distortion from an equivalent value Iron Core Coil with discs has audible distortion.
